In an iconic win, the students from grade 8 of The Indian High School, Oud Metha, secured the first prize at the Young Scientist Innovator Competition hosted by Ambassador School Dubai. With 12 schools and more than 200 students from across the UAE participating and giving each other stiff competition, the honour was indeed special.

Their project ‘Hubble Cycle’ showcased the themes of circular economy and sustainability. It was presented under the Scimplify category, that required a multi-pronged solution to environmental conservation. Their innovative boat design effciently collects plastic from the sea using special sound frequencies, minimizing disruption to marine life, and addresses oil spills and seaweed collection, with the latter being used in the creation of bioplastics. Additionally, the ‘Redimentum Tadweer’ machine optimizes the recycling process, melting down plastic for reuse as filament in 3D printing. This holistic approach impressed the judges, earning the team top honors at the competition.

Let’s rejoice and applaud the diligence of our talented innovators – Lyn Rose Johnson-8A, Andrea Shanto Vadakkel-8B, Nandana Sandeep-8C, and Khevna Manish Harwani-8E!
